When you think of cruises, many think of departing from some warm Florida port headed to the caribbean. Those who live in Los Angeles and the nearby cities, may never know that they can actually drive to a port close by and hop on a cruise to mexico or hawaii. Finding cruises from Los Angeles is easy if you know how. You will find the answers to your questions of what cruise lines depart from two nearby ports, where do they cruise to and over how many days. Since you can drive to port where would you park can be a question that many ask. This article will aim to answer all these questions so that you can find the best cruises from Los Angeles.
There are two ports to consider when choosing the best cruises from Los Angeles. They are the World Cruise Center off Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro and the Long Beach Cruise Terminal 10 miles west at 231 Windsor Way, Long Beach. If you plan to depart from the Long Beach Terminal its pretty much all Carnival Cruise Line ships. There are times that Princess will depart from this port headed to Hawaii. The World Cruise Center hosts pretty much all the major cruise lines which includes Celebrity, Disney, Holland America, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Cunard Cruise Lines as well as others. This makes this port very busy filled with happy vacationers and you can be one of them!
Of these cruise ships departing this port will set sail to multiple exotic locations depending on you taste. If you wish for the warm and fun of Mexico choose those cruises headed from Baja California or the Mexican Rivera. These trips normally can be short like a 3 day long weekend or up to a whole week. Since those from Southern California don’t have to pay airfare you can find yourself an incredibly cheap cruises from Los Angeles! Some cruisers will wish for a longer vacation and set sail for Hawaii or Alaska. These trips will take up to 14 days that will give you more than enough time to relax and not think about work or any other worries you may have. Leave them all at home!
Be careful where you decide to park since this is a busy port and could get confusing if you are not careful. At the World Cruise Center in San Pedro there are eight parking lots. For those of you going on a short 3 to 4 day cruise you will want to park in Lots 1 and 2. This lot is only open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Friday only. The cost will be around $12 a day. If you are going on a longer cruise such as 5 to 14 days you will want to park in lots 6, 7, and 8. These lots are open all week, 24 hours a day. Parking is $12 a day and can be paid for by cash, Travelers Checks and Major Credit Cards. For you convenience there is a courtesy shuttle that will take you to the cruise terminal where you will check in.
In 2011, thousands will flock to the San Pedro and Long Beach to vacation on the best cruises from Los Angeles. Your vacation will already be much more affordable since you most likely you won’t have to pay for airfare. With this affordability you are given a wide selection of choices in Cruise Lines to where you wish to go. It really is up to you and I hope that you chose to depart from Los Angeles more than once. You will not regret it!
Could anyone tell me if they have shuttle service to the check in counter? My wife is in a wheelchair and will need assistance before we board. Any info you could give me will be a great help in our planning. THANKS

LA port is pretty busy but they have a pretty good system down to make things easy for you. Allow yourself plenty of time to get there and check in. You don't want you first day on the cruise to stink because you are all stressed out. We love cruising...this is our fourth!

Hey, just for you all to know that if you want to leave out of a less busy port you might want to try cruising out of Long Beach. The only problem with that is that I believe Carnival is the only ones that leave from there. If you think Carnival's cheap you might want to go with another cruise line, like Princess.

Does anyone have any idea on how long it takes to get to the port from Anaheim? With traffic and all how much buffer should I give myself to get to port on time? I am trying to work out the planning on this early so I can work it out with my work to leave early enough.

My husband and I decided on taking a cruise out of LA last spring. We felt the Mexican Rivera was absolutely stunning. Maybe this year if the prices are still low we will try and go again.
